Calculate completed years rather than rounding birthdays
Enter the date of birth and comparison date in the calendar you are actually using. The result separates completed years, remaining months and remaining days, so a person who has not reached their next birthday is not rounded into the following year. For records involving several date formats, convert the birth date first and confirm that the original document's calendar was selected.
Why Shamsi, Gregorian and Hijri ages can differ
A Gregorian or Afghan Solar Hijri year follows a solar cycle; a calculated Islamic Hijri year is shorter. An age expressed in lunar years can therefore be numerically different from age in solar years for the same person. Use the calendar required by the application or institution, and never substitute a lunar-age figure where a form explicitly asks for completed Gregorian years.
Birth certificates and official records
If a certificate gives a Shamsi date, preserve its exact day, month and year before converting. For visas, employment records or age eligibility, use the date format requested by the receiving authority. An estimated or incomplete birth date cannot be made legally precise by a calculator.
